Beat Imboden appointed as new director of Grande Dixence SA

Sion, 30 August 2022 – Grande Dixence SA has appointed Beat Imboden as new director of the company. From 1 August 2023, the 57-year-old engineer will succeed Amédée Kronig, who is retiring after 11 years at the head of Grande Dixence SA.

The Board of Directors of Grande Dixence SA appointed Beat Imboden as new director of the company during its meeting on 29 August 2022. He will assume his new position on 1 August 2023, when the current director, Amédée Kronig, will retire.

Beat Imboden is an electrical engineer with a degree from ETH Zurich. He has been working at Alpiq since 2010 as an asset manager and project leader. In particular, he manages the Electra-Massa and Energie Electrique du Simplon facilities. He previously worked for BKW, Rhonewerke/FMV and ABB, among others. With his in-depth knowledge of the hydroelectric field, his technical skills, his experience and human qualities, Beat Imboden has all the abilities required for the management of one of the main Swiss storage facilities.

Amédée Kronig, current director of the company, joined Grande Dixence in 1988 and became director in 2011. Over the past six years, he has notably managed the renovation of the Fionnay and Nendaz power plants, and the penstock connecting the Lac des Dix to the Rhône valley. He will thus pass on a fully functional hydropower facility to his successor.

The Board of Directors of Grande Dixence SA sincerely thanks Amédée Kronig for his many years of commitment to a hydroelectric complex that is of systemic importance for the security of electricity supply in Switzerland. The Board members are looking forward to their future collaboration with Beat Imboden and wish him every success in his new position.
